Smashed dates have become my go-to healthy snack. They’re easily customizable to your own tastebuds. I’ve done smashed dates with peanut butter, bananas, pistachios, pomegranates, and even apples. I would have to say out of all of the varieties I’ve tried, peanut butter + dark chocolate reigns supreme. Dark chocolate and pomegranate comes at a close second. The main theme here with the smashed dates is dark chocolate and sea salt. The sweetness of the chocolate paired with the saltiness of the flaky salt emphasizes the fruit that you choose to add to this snack. Dates are high fiber, doesn’t raise your glucose level, and is a nice little treat for when you have a hankering for something sweet. Hope you love these!

I enjoy these as a snack before those early-morning workouts!
Ingredients
- Medjool Dates
- 1/2 cup Dark Chocolate Chips
- 1 tbsp Coconut Oil
- Maldon Flaky Salt
- Fruit or filling of choice: pomegranate, peanut butter, pistachios, banana, etc.
Directions
- Prepare the Dates: After pitting the dates, place them between two pieces of parchment paper. With a heavy-bottomed cup, gently press down on the date to “smash”.
- Assemble the Chocolate Dip: In a microwave safe bowl, add chocolate chips and coconut oil. Microwave in 30-second increments until completely melted.
- Add Toppings: Dip half of the smashed date into the melted chocolate. Add fruit pieces on top and sprinkle with flaky salt. Refrigerate for a minimum of 30 minutes before consuming.
- Storage: Store in an airtight container, either in the refrigerator or freezer.
Notes
For a harder texture (I sometimes like to nibble on it like a bunny), I’ll keep the dates in the freezer. For a softer texture, refrigerate.
